About hypnosis and hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

Ok Hypnosis what’s it all about? Well there’s a lot of misconceptions about  what hypnosis actually is, based on old black and white movies or the performances of the stage hypnotist, what you see with the stage hypnotist shows are nothing more than great showmanship razzmatazz and careful choosing of volunteers. There is no mind control or magic with hypnosis, you can’t get stuck, there are no side affects, in fact it’s a perfectly natural state that we all enter several times a day and it feels so normal we’re not even aware it happens.

An example of everyday hypnosis is…. have you ever been totally engrossed in a programme on the TV or reading a good book, then noticed the drink left for you close by, yet you were unaware of the person who bought it to you, come and go, well that’s hypnosis. Or perhaps you’ve been driving home and day dreaming about what you’ll have for dinner or worrying about something or other suddenly your home and your journey has passed by without you seemingly being aware of it let alone driving the car, again that’s hypnosis.

So put simply Hypnosis is a relaxing state of body and mind bought on through the concentration of an idea or concept. Within the therapy room setting this relaxed state is induced by the sound of the therapists voice.

Hypnosis on its own does nothing more than relax you. It’s the therapy part of the equation that enables us to heal ones emotional/psychological problems whilst in a relaxed state.
